Churston Devon Pro's

February 16, 2012 0 Comments Gillys Missives by Chris Gill

Yesterday saw the playing of the Devon Pro's winter series at Churston Golf Club. The course was in it's great condition as normal with some very smelly pins. I started the round well with a couple of good up and downs before holing a monster on 4 for birdie and a simple pitch and putt birdie at the par 5 5th. I then hit a bad approach into 6 for my first bogey of the round. A couple of pars to follow and then hit a awful tee shot at 9 out of bounds for a double bogey. I then missed a couple of good chances on the next few finishing with a miss judgement on 13 for a bogey. On 14 I made a good birdie from the trees and then finished the round with a bunch of missed chances for a 71 (+1) and tied for 3rd. Not a bad day but need more practice and game play before the season starts to get up to racing tempature!

Saunton alliance

I have just finished playing in the 36 hole Saunton winter event. We played the shorter west course yesterday where it was bloody freezing. We had frozen greens with a bad wind chill! I played quite poorly with plenty of mistakes. I still feel like I'm getting back into the swing of things. I scored 73(+2) to be tied 2nd, 2 shots back from Paul hendriksen. TodayEthel weather warmed up alot and was very pleasant. I played with my sponsor from sip nordic andy Rockey and we both played well. Andy hit it great today but struggled a little scoring. I started the round poor with a bogey at 1 but then birdied 3&4 but bogeyed 5 to go back to even. I then missed a couple of good birdie chances but thingsstarted to warm up on the back nine. I birdied 10 and then hit a 5 iron to 2 feet at 14. 2 putted for another birdie. Then holed a good 20 footer for 3 birdies in a row. I then finished the round with 2 pars for a round of 66(-4) to win the event by 1 from Paul. Te course was in great condition and I'm looking forward to going back when things warm up a little.  Andy and me finished 4th, just outside the prizes. Thanks for a good couple of days though mate.

Hi guys Not much to report but I failed! I needed -4 today and had it going. I was -2 thru 11 but missed a few chances on the way in and made a bit of a mess of 17. I tried my hardest and never gave up but it was not good enough. As you can imagine I'm very frustrated but am looking forward to the 2012 season and going to work extra hard to improve alot. I get back to the uk on Tuesday morning and back to Exeter around midday Tuesday. Thank you all sooooo much for messages over the last 2 weeks and it really helped. Hope to catch up with you all soon. Gilly

Asian tour school FS day 1

Well what a day. I have so say I haven't had that experence on a golf course for quite some time. The day started well as I was feeling good, hitting it well on the range and looking forward to the day ahead. I just missed the fairway at 1 and hit a good 8 iron to 20 feet and just missed te putt. On 2 I hit it pin high in 2 on the par 5 and chipped stiff for a birdie. A good up and down at the next kept the forward movement going. A good 2 putt at the tough par 3 meant I was still -1. On the par 5 5th I hit my 2nd just short of the green and up and downed for another birdie. I the made 2 of the best sand saves I have made for ages. The 1st was a 40 yard one heading back to the water where I stiffed it. The next was from 25 yards over other bunkers. I the. Had a flyer at 8 but another chip and putt kept things going. I then short sides myself at 9 and hit another fantastic trap shot to reach the turn in 34(-2). On 10 I missed the fairway into the trap and could only get the ball to within 20 yards of the green. Another great up and down and on we plod. At 11 I got a flyer from the semi and went over the back of the green but this time made my 1st bogey of the day. On 12, a par 5, I hit a good drive, good 3iron and 2 putted to get back to -2. It then started to go a little wrong. I pulled my tee shot into the trees at 13 but got a great lie. I tried to hit a 8 iron out but pulled it so bad it went into the water. I then missed a 5 footer for bogey so had to settle for bad double bogey. On 14 things really went bad. I hit my tee shot I to the water and found it ok, then thinned it over the green into the trap. Duffed the trap shot and ended up with a triple bogey 6. I then missed good chances on the next 2 for birdie and then 3 putted 17 from 20 feet fr a bogey and then hit the par 5 18th in 2 and 3 putted there for a round of 76(+4). This now means I have to find a good score tomorrow to make the cut. Let's hope I find something and get it going. Gilly

Asian tour school finals

January 17, 2012 0 Comments Gillys Missives by Chris Gill

Well guys After 2 days solid practice I am ready for the finals to start tomorrow morning. The rounds I have played have gone well and feel I just starting to hit a little bit of form. I start the campaign at 8:30 at Springfield and then over to imperial lakeview Thursday for the 2nd round. There are 240 players starting and there is a cut of top 100 after two rounds and top 80 after 3. Different format but shouldn't concern my game too much. I'll will blog tomorrow an tell you how it all goes. On the plus side I think I have managed to get rid of my fever and am fighting fit. Need to be as it has really warmed up here the last few days. Speak tomorrow. Gilly

Asian tour school day 3

Morning That was a strange day. Going out this mornig knowing that as long as I didn't fall over things were going to be ok. The round started well as I hit it 7 feet on 1 but missed it. I hit the par 5 2nd on 2 but 3 putted. On the par 3 next I hit a good 8 iron to 12 feet as holed it. Game on! I then 3 putted the next from nowhere, missed a good chance at the next then fatted a 5 iron short of the green on 6 for another bogey. Back against the wall! On the par 3 7th I hit the shot of the round. A 4 iron to 2 feet to get things back on track. I then missed a load of birdie putts up to the 16 th where a miss hit cost me a bogey. On 17 I played the hole awful ad made another bogey. On the last I hit the green in 2 and 2 putted for a closing 74 ad finish in 10th spot. I was +3 total and the cut mark was +8 so made it easy but need to get some rest and improve my game for next week. Off te the driving range in the morning and work on some things. Hope you all have a great weekend and look forward to hearing your replys. Gilly

Morning all What a day today. It has 2 stories but I'll start with the golf. I got off to a good start with a solid par at 1 and 2 putt birdie at 2. At 3 I hit a awful shot into the bunker and didn't get it up and down. I then 3 putt the next for another bogey. I made a good 8 footer on 5 for par and t the next hit the shot of the day. From the left fairway trap I hit a 3 iron to 10 feet and rolled in the birdie. I made a great up and own save at 7 and then wedged to 6 feet at the next for another birdie to go -1 for the day. Then things hit a little bit of a wall. I hit a really poor shot into the next and was lucky to escape with a bogey. I then missed 2 good chances at 10 & 11 but then missed 3 foot par putt on 12. A par at 13 was ok the another awful iron into the trap at 14 meant another bogey. I then hit a great 3 wood to 20 on te par 5 and a 2 Pitt birdie was to follow. I made a fantastic up and down at 16 for par and then run out of gas. I duffed my wedge into 17 for a bogey an then 3 putted the last. A round of 75 was the fruit of my labour to leave me +1 tournament and tied 9th. Still ok but could have been a lot easier. The cut mark is +6 so a soils one tomorrow will do fine. The other side of the coin is that I am quite poorly. I was up most of the night shaking and shivering with sweats. On the back nine I ran out of steam hence the bogeys to finish. Hopefully I can go back to the room and take some pills to get better. Fingers crossed hey. Gilly

Morning gang What a early start that was. Up at 5:00 am for a 7:30 start. It was fantastic weather early with no wind and cool, about 27c. I got off to a good start. I just missed birdie at 10, made a good 8 footer for birdie at 11 but then made bogey again at 12. A good 2 putt par at 13 and the. A great up and down form the fairway trap at 15 for a birdie. Another good up and in on 16 ad then missed from 12 feet on17 and hit a 4 iron to 6 feet on 18 but missed again. Just stay patient. I had a good chance at 1 bit then hit the 2nd in 2 and 2 putted for another birdie. I then hit a great 8 iron to 4 and rolled in the 15 footer. On the next I made a good 2 putt par but then 3 putted the next. Same as yesterday!! I then made back to back great an downs to get te round going. On 8 a par 5, I hit a great wedge from 89 yards to 4 feet and slotted it home. On the 9th I hit a good drive but pulled my 2nd left of the green. I hit a good chip to 4 feet and holes the putt. A roun of 69 was the result as I'm really pleased with how it went. That should move me up the board a little. Keep te mail comin as I enjoy reading it in the evenings. Gilly

Asian tour school day 1

Morning all What a day today. Things started great with a good 15 foot birdie and 1 and a 2 putt birdie on 2. I missed a good chance at 3 and a good up and down at the next. At 5 I 3 putted from 10 feet above the hole and followed that with 2 more bogies at the next 2. A couple of pars on the front nine meant I was out in +1. The wind was really picking up and was blowing up to 25 mph at times maki it tough to get the ball close but combine that with really quick greens and scoring was tough so +1 for the front was ok. On 10 and 11 I missed chances for birdie as then bogeyed 12. On 13 I hit the shot of the day to 3 feet but missed it! A good par at the next and then just missed a eagle at 15 but still a good birdie. Another chance went begging at 16 &17 but a great up and down on the last meant a round of 73(+1) to currently be inside the top. Let's hope for more of the same tomorrow. Gilly

Dear all Sorry for the delay in information but things down here have been mad. I have finished my 2nd and final practice round today feel really good about the next 2 weeks. The course is a lot different from last year as they have had a drought this summer and there is little or no grass to speak of on most of the holes. The greens although are very good and quick which should make pitting ok. I have spent the last 2 days with my old germenab roommate Lupo and it has been great to chat about old times on your and hopefully giving the pair of us a good kick up the backside to get out there again. I'm off at 12:05 my time which is 5:05 uk time. I will blog as soon as I get off the course tomorrow but for all the scoring go to www.asiantour.com for all the qualifying results. I'm at imperial lakeview! Speak tomorrow. Gilly
